Princess Cays, Bahamas: A Simple Beach Day Done Right

“Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline.” Sarah Kay

Princess Cays ended up being one of the bigger surprises of our cruise. We were not really looking forward to it, but it completely exceeded our expectations.

Princess Cays is a private resort area located on the southern tip of Eleuthera in the Bahamas and is owned by Princess Cruises. While many people refer to it as a private island, it is actually a section of Eleuthera that has been developed specifically for cruise guests. The Bahamas itself is made up of over 700 islands and cays, known for their clear water, white sand beaches, and relaxed island atmosphere. Princess has created a well organized beach day experience here that blends natural beauty with convenience.

The water here is absolutely beautiful. The colors range from turquoise to deep blue, and it is incredibly clear and completely changed our expectations.

There are a variety of shore excursions and activities available if you want more than just a beach day. Guests can book boat tours around the island, go kayaking, try paddleboarding, or even book fishing excursions. There are also options for snorkeling if you want more than just swimming on the beach.

Princess provides food on the beach, set up in a BBQ style buffet. You will find burgers, hot dogs, and pork ribs available throughout the day. The ribs were Oklahoma style, which is a polite way of saying they were not quite as good as Texas ribs, but still a solid option for a beachside meal.

It is a good idea to bring your own snorkel gear and towels from the ship. If you do not have a snorkel, rentals are available, but having your own is always easier. Drinks can be charged directly to your room using your Princess Medallion, which makes it convenient to grab what you want without needing cash.

Since ships anchor offshore, you will need to take a ferry from the ship to the beach. The process is well organized and runs consistently throughout the day.

If you are looking to upgrade your experience, there are private cabanas available for rent. They run about $250 for the day and can accommodate up to four people. For a group, this can be a great way to have a shaded, more private space to relax.

There are also plenty of beach chairs available throughout the area, so finding a place to settle in is easy whether you are looking for sun or shade.

Princess Cays turned out to be a relaxing and enjoyable beach day that surprised us in the best way. The water alone makes it worth the stop, and the added convenience of food, drinks, and activities makes it easy to enjoy without much planning.

If you are visiting on a cruise, go in with an open mind. It may not be the stop you are most excited about ahead of time, but it could easily become one of your favorites.
