Welcome to the land of "Frankincense" – Salalah, Oman's cool oasis where folks from hotter spots like Muscat flock from July through September to escape the sizzle and soak up the breezy vibes.

As you know, we're die-hard fans of Marriott Hotels, but when our buddy Mark insisted we give Anantara Resort in Salalah a try, we thought, why not shake things up a bit?

Turns out, Salalah it's a charming coastal town oozing with tradition, and the Anantara resort? It captures that heritage and beauty and turns it to luxury.

If you find yourself lounging at Anantara, brace yourself for a royal treatment. From seafood buffets to spa sessions that'll turn you into a puddle of bliss, they've got luxury down to a T. Honestly, you might never want to leave the resort, but trust us – that'd be a mistake.

Now, onto the real adventure: Mohammed, our local tour guide extraordinaire. Yeah, we know. Could his name be any more stereotypical? But let's not judge a book by its cover because this guy was the real deal. With a list of Salalah's top spots in hand, we struck a deal with Mohammed for a tour that cost much less than the other large tour companies, and it was completely personalized.

His trusty SUV was clean and reliable. During the tour, we got the lowdown on Mohammed's past life as a local historian. He took us every where we wanted to go to and even a few of his favorite spots. We got to see some Frankincense trees, and even bought some in the Al Husn Souq. We waded through Wadi Darbar while admiring the beautiful waterfalls and petting some camels grazing in the shin-deep water. He also took us for a beautiful ride into the mountains to visit the tomb of Prophet Job. Mohammed's pride in his country was infectious, and you could tell he was determined to show us the best of Salalah. We ended the day with lunch at a local restaurant- and I do mean local. We were a little out of place but everyone was nice to us- except the cat in the picture. Crystal wan't feeding him fast enough! Mohammed ordered some amazing camel hump and rice. However, Crystal opted just to eat chicken. Big surprise.

The only unfriendly local we met. In his defense, Crystal didn't share her chicken fast enough.
